Anthony Mackie’s Captain America is introducing a new phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios unveiled the thrilling first teaser for Captain America: Brave New World on Friday, July 12, which sees Mackie, 45, suit up again as Sam Wilson in the franchise. In the upcoming film, he takes over from Chris Evans’ run as Captain America, after officially taking on the mantle of Captain America in the finale of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, on Disney+ in 2021.
“After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident,” reads the synopsis from Marvel Studios. “He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”
Captain America: Brave New World also stars Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, with Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson.
Directed by Julius Onah and based on Marvel characters created by Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and Gene Colan, Brave New World follows the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which saw Mackie’s Sam a.k.a. Falcon inherit the iconic Captain America shield.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Disney+ miniseries about Sam and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, continued the story of the MCU’s new Captain America.

As Ross, a former Army general and Secretary of State who is now President of the United States, Ford inherits the role from William Hurt, who died in 2022.
“Harrison was the f—ing man, dude,” Mackie told TheWrap in an interview in August about his costar. “It’s funny, he shows up and everybody is kind of, you know, you don’t know what to do with Harrison Ford. Like, ‘Somebody get Harrison water,’ but he wasn’t that at all.”
He added, “For him to be in this profession for so many years and to see him at 80 excited to be a part of this universe was really dope and it put things in perspective how lucky we are, how lucky I am to be a part of it and bring these characters to life.”
Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World opens in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2025.
