Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efrid’s husband Josh Efrid has reasons to be concerned for her wellbeing following the death of her sister Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive look at the Friday, July 5 episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, Josh fears for his wife’s mental health and the impact that Anna’s death has left on her psyche.
While watching Pumpkin scroll on her iPad device, Josh suggests they cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie, but she declines. Eventually, when he asks what she’s looking for, she replies, “It’s not something that I really want to look at, but stuff to put Anna’s cremains in.”
“I’ve been with Pumpkin for almost 10 years and I’ve seen some damage been dealt over the years but losing Anna has been the worst that I’ve seen,” Josh tells the cameras of Pumpkin’s mental state. “I keep thinking tomorrow she’s going to get up, she’s going to want to do something, she’s going to want to eat [and] then it doesn’t come.”
“I’m doing everything I can around the house to distract the kids but it’s just like they need Mamma P back for sure,” he adds.
Pumpkin reflects on how difficult it’s been to “sit here and pick something” to hold the cremations of her 29-year-old sister who was taken too soon. In a candid conversation, she opens up about how Anna’s death has made her realize that everything can change in “a blink of an eye.”
“Now that Anna’s passed, everybody in the family is having to deal with the repercussions,” Pumpkin tells the cameras about how Anna’s death has reminded her of her own priorities. “[Anna’s] kids live in different places. I don’t want my family or my kids to ever have to worry about that.”
“It’s open at least, my eyes, a lot on everything like wanting to be prepared for that moment in my life or Josh’s life. You’re not promised tomorrow literally anything could happen,” she sighed.
She later reminds Josh that they “don’t even have a will” should anything happen to them. “Who’s gonna raise my kids, my mother [Mama June Shannon]? I don’t want that,” Pumpkin points out before suggesting they seek out a lawyer.
All the talk about getting their affairs in order makes Josh emotional. As he wipes tears from his eyes, he opens up about how Anna’s death has also left him rattled.
“Anna passing at 29 is a very big eye-opener,” he says to the cameras. “To have your priorities in line, it’s scary. It really is and me and Pumpkin need to get on it — soon.”
