Kylie Atwood is a mom again!
The CNN national security correspondent, 35, has welcomed her second baby with husband Steve Harrington, a rep for Atwood confirms exclusively to PEOPLE. Summer Kay Harrington was born on Wednesday, Nov. 27, weighing 6 lbs., 13 oz. and measuring 19 inches long. She joins big sister Sienna, 14 months.
“Our first daughter, Sienna, has been full of love for her new sister Summer,” Atwood tells PEOPLE. “At 14 months old her favorite activities include hugging and waving so she has showered Summer with lots of each.”
“Sometimes she looks at me with a puzzled stare, as if to say, ‘Why are you still holding that doll?’ ” she jokes. “But for the most part, she seems excited to have a new best friend in the house.”

Atwood had a big year these past 12 months, traveling all over the world for work after she welcomed Sienna last fall.
“As I reflect on the last year, I’m kind of in disbelief of everything that has happened. I went back to work in January after having Sienna last fall. I dove straight into campaign coverage, foreign policy reporting and traveling to the Middle East and China with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken,” she says.
“In the final weeks before Summer arrived, I was reporting in Michigan on Election Day. I’ve loved every second of the reporting assignments, and I’ll have plenty of stories to tell Summer about the year I was pregnant with her. Growing a family while working is not easy but I’m always reminding myself how incredibly grateful I am to have such a full life on both fronts.”
As for Summer’s birth, Atwood says it was “much easier” than when she gave birth to Sienna.
“She arrived in the wee hours on the day before Thanksgiving and she was healthy so we got out of the hospital pretty quickly,” Atwood shares. “By Thanksgiving afternoon we were already home having a turkey feast with my parents and brother! I’m so lucky that my mom is sticking around for the weekend to help out during this time of beautiful mayhem as we transition to a family of four.”
“We are biased of course but over the last few days Steve and I decided that Thanksgiving is the best time to have a baby,” the newly minted mom of two says. “Everyone is cozy mode with family anyhow, so Summer joined the party effortlessly.”
