Blake Lively Says Bringing Ryan Reynolds on Red Carpet Is ‘Like Homecoming’ ArticlePure

Blake Lively is having flashbacks to high school.

The It Ends With Us star reflected on her younger years in a post on her Instagram Stories Aug. 7, re-sharing a video from Vogue that showed her and Ryan Reynolds the previous night on the red carpet at her movie’s premiere in New York City.

“Just like homecoming Sophomore year … I didn’t have a date to the dance so instead I went with my best friend,” Lively, 36, wrote, tagging her husband, 47.

During the event, Lively paid homage to Britney Spears in a vintage Versace gown the singer originally wore in 2002. She also confirmed to PEOPLE the dress is the “actual” one Spears, 42, wore over 20 years ago.

Meanwhile, Reynolds sported an olive-green suit with a white floral boutonniere — another nod to his wife’s It Ends With Us character Lily Bloom, who works as a florist.

Lively told PEOPLE at the premiere that “it’s the best” to have the support of Reynolds, whom she recently appeared with in his new movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Gossip Girl alum also spoke about her It Ends With Us character Lily’s story arc, and the support the protagonist receives from her own loved ones throughout the film.

“This movie is a movie about a woman who experiences every color of human emotion and the people who love her and support her along the way,” Lively said, before noting that she was “so grateful” to feel those supportive sentiments at the premiere.

Along with Reynolds, Lively was joined by costars Justin Baldoni (who also directed), Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Isabela Ferrer and Alex Neustaedter, as well as author Colleen Hoover, who wrote the bestselling 2016 novel that the film was adapted from. Additionally, Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine costar Hugh Jackman supported Lively’s latest film.

Reynolds’ attendance on Tuesday follows Lively’s similar support of him at the New York City premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine last month, where she jokingly told PEOPLE that her husband was supporting her as opposed to the other way around.

“I feel like he’s my plus-one. That’s the energy I’m giving,” she said on the July 22 red carpet. “He’s here supporting me, and I’m very grateful for his support tonight.”

Asked about their “romantic” relationship on Live with Kelly and Mark, Lively — who tied the knot with Reynolds in 2012, before the pair went on to welcome four children together — said, “I think we’re both pretty romantic.”

“We both love love,” said the actress, who was recently featured in a Baz Luhrmann-directed Vogue editorial spread alongside the couple’s close friend Jackman, 55.

“I’ve never associated better with someone than Baz Luhrmann, who just, everything is like, love and fireworks and romance,” Lively added on Live. “And my husband is the only man I’ve ever known who sees life that way.”

It Ends With Us is in theaters Aug. 9.
