Kolkata: A major political storm has erupted in West Bengal politics. The dissatisfaction brewing within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after the Lok Sabha elections now appears to have turned into an open rebellion. Nineteen party MPs have reportedly revolted against the leadership, creating a serious political crisis for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the party high command.

The release of the rebel MPs’ list has triggered intense political discussions across Bengal. The list includes prominent names such as actress-turned-politician Sayani Ghosh, Bollywood actor and MP Shatrughan Sinha, former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, and several other senior leaders. These MPs have allegedly submitted a signed letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker expressing their dissatisfaction with the party leadership.

Among the MPs taking a rebellious stand are Kakoli Ghosh, Sayani Ghosh, Shatrughan Sinha, Yusuf Pathan, Mala Roy, Shatabdi Roy, Rachna Banerjee, and Deepak Adhikari. Political observers are calling it one of the biggest challenges ever faced by Mamata Banerjee within her own party.

According to sources, many MPs had been unhappy for a long time with the party’s organizational structure and election strategy. Lack of internal communication, increasing centralization of leadership, and failure to review election setbacks are being cited as major reasons behind the growing unrest.

Several Loyal Leaders Still Standing with Mamata

Despite the crisis, many senior TMC leaders continue to stand firmly with Mamata Banerjee. These include Abhishek Banerjee, Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and Kirti Azad. Party leaders insist that the TMC remains united and that the impact of the rebel MPs will remain limited.

Serious Questions Raised Over Party Functioning

Birbhum MP Shatabdi Roy, during an interview, raised serious concerns about the functioning of the organization. She alleged that the leadership ignored internal complaints and allowed corruption and overconfidence to weaken the party structure.

She said the growing number of dissatisfied leaders cannot simply be dismissed as personal ambition, but rather reflects deeper problems within the organization.

Sushmita Dev’s Resignation Adds to the Trouble

Meanwhile, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigned from both the party and Parliament membership, further deepening the crisis. Political analysts believe that if the situation is not controlled soon, the party could face major setbacks in the upcoming Assembly elections.

At present, the biggest question in Bengal politics is whether Mamata Banerjee will be able to contain the rebellion or whether the internal unrest will seriously impact the future of the Trinamool Congress.
