The White Lotus’ Sarah Catherine Hook Is Ready for Piper to Be a ‘Hoe Now’ After Season 3 Finale ArticlePure

Even Sarah Catherine Hook was not expecting Piper Ratliff’s story to turn out the way it did.

The 29-year-old actress broke down her character’s complete 180 in the The White Lotus season 3 finale during a cast Q&A led by Tan France in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 6.

Instead of pursuing her initial plan of staying at a Buddhist temple, Piper reveals she hated the experience during an overnight stay and decides she’s too accustomed to her privileged life.

“I was like, ‘She’s so earnest.’ And I feel like she put her whole life into it. And then you were like, ‘Oh. I guess she is her mother’s daughter,'” Hook said of her character’s revelation to mom Victoria (Parker Posey) and dad Timothy (Jason Isaacs) that she could not spend a year there after all.

Hook joked that Piper “also needs a Lorazepam right now,” referring to her onscreen parents’ use of the drug, but said of Piper’s fate, “I actually love it though. I think it’s so brilliant.”

“I’m like, ‘Oh god, she’s just a little rich girl.’ And that’s quite loaded and it’s so good. And I actually feel like she did the reverse of everyone. I was like, ‘Wow. Everyone in this episode really came to some enlightenment.’ And she’s trying to get enlightened the whole time. And then she’s like, ‘No. I guess I’m spoiled.'”

“I love that. It’s so funny. It’s so good. I couldn’t be happier for her, really,” Hook continued.

She then joked about another twist of fate that she’d be on board with for Piper, as she teased, “I’m ready for her to be a hoe now. So let’s go. Make it happen. No, I’m kidding. I don’t know. I’m being a troll.”

During the panel, Hook’s costar Aimee Lou Wood also weighed in on her character’s fate in the explosive 90-minute finale, as she said she and Walton Goggins filmed Chelsea and Rick’s death scene on “the hottest day ever” and he “had to carry me so many times and it was so hard,” so how it looked onscreen was “exactly how it felt” for the actors, “which was really strange.”

“For about two weeks before we shot it, I felt super weird. It was like this odd, ominous thing that was just hanging over us,” she said of the finale, which saw Chelsea and Rick both die in a shootout that Rick started. “It was so weird. But I didn’t expect it to feel like that for such a long time before. And also, Chelsea doesn’t know what’s going to happen to her, but I know. So it’s this odd thing.”

Wood, 31, added, “I think it’s not sunk in. There’s a lot in that episode that made me f—— sob. A lot.”
