A Snow White producer’s son criticized the film’s lead Rachel Zegler in a since-deleted Instagram comment.
Jonah Platt, the son of movie and theater producer Marc Platt and brother of actor Ben Platt, responded to a comment on one of his Instagram posts asking about Variety’s report that his father allegedly reprimanded Zegler for her political comments amid the Disney remake’s promotion.
“You really want to do this?” wrote Jonah, 38, in response to a commenter calling his father’s reported actions “creepy as hell and uncalled for.” Tuesday’s Variety report claimed that Marc, 67, had flown to New York City to speak with Zegler, 23, about a tweet she posted in support of Palestine after sharing Snow White’s official trailer.
“Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,” wrote Jonah, an actor and host of the podcast Being Jewish.

“This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office,” he continued, apparently referring to Zegler. “Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”
Reps for Disney and Zegler did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Despite only earning $87 million dollars in its first weekend upon a March 21 release, the live-action Snow White emerged in the box office’s top spot. On social media, Zegler has offered behind-the-scenes glimpses of her experience playing the titular princess and celebrated the movie’s success.

The Marc Webb-directed remake of the 1937 animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been dogged with controversy since Zegler (who is of Colombian and Polish descent) was announced as playing the Disney princess. The West Side Story Golden Globe winner faced racist backlash from social media users over a person of Latinx background being cast in the role; she also made headlines by calling the original Disney film “dated.”
Marc, who shares five children, including sons Jonah and Ben, with wife Julie, is among the producers of Snow White alongside Jared LeBoff. A Tony winner and Oscar nominee, he also produced the Broadway musical Wicked and its two-part movie adaptation.
Snow White is in theaters now.
