‘SNL’ Sees The Lonely Island Debut New Song, More 2024 Election Sketch Cameos ArticlePure

Saturday Night Live featured a new song and more celebrity cameos this week!

Comedian Nate Bargatze 45, hosted the show for the second time on Oct. 5, with Coldplay as musical guests, performing tracks “All My Love” and “WE PRAY,” both from their new album Moon Music.

However, there was also another musical appearance on the show, with The Lonely Island debuting a new track, “Sushi Glory Hole,” during a digital short.

Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer (the comedy trio’s third member, Jorma Taccone was not featured) played two 1980s-esque businessmen giving an unusual presentation to a board of investors, featuring Kenan Thompson, Maya Rudolph and Bowen Yang.

Appearing in front of the board in three-piece suits and glasses, Samberg and Schaffer, both 46, put a cassette tape in to play before launching into the track, which declared that for a “Sushi Glory Hole,” “instead of strange s— you’ll be getting a snack.”

The two later explained the concept, “sushi through a hole in the wall,” after repeating the song’s hook, “hear us out,” to the skeptical-looking board. Their “Sushi Glory Hole” featured an app that allowed users to identify which bathroom stalls in their area had holes in the wall through which they could receive “some shockingly high-grade fish,” though they noted it may not always be sushi users received as none of the glory holes were “labeled.” Ultimately, the board were not swayed.

Elsewhere, SNL’s cold open again focused on the 2024 election, with the same starry cameos as in the show’s premier episode on Sept. 28, this time poking fun at the recent Oct. 2 vice-presidential debate.

Jim Gaffigan appeared again as Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, in a debate with J.D. Vance, Trump’s 2024 running mate, played by Yang. The debate was moderated by Chloe Finemanplaying Margaret Brennan and Heidi Gardner as Norah O’Donnell.

Harris was once more portrayed by Maya Rudolph, and SNL alum Andy Samberg once again played Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff, while Dana Carvey appeared with them on a couch watching the debate at the vice president’s home, reprising his role as President Joe Biden, this time eating an ice-cream.

Meanwhile, among the skits he appeared in, Bargatze reprised his hilarious George Washington role from 2023, in a sequel sketch, “Washington’s Dream 2.” He also appeared with Gardner in a sketch about a burger-eating competition, “Mile High Burger Challenge.”

Bargatze first hosted SNL in October 2023, when he was joined by Foo Fighters as the evening’s musical guest.

SNL is currently in the midst of its landmark season 50, which kicked off its first episode on Sept. 28 with Jean Smart as host and Jelly Roll as musical guest.

This season, returning cast members Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker were promoted to the main cast after two years each as featured players, while Punkie Johnson, Chloe Troast and Molly Kearney have all stepped away. Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline, meanwhile, have been added to the sketch comedy show’s roster.

Gardner, Thompson, Fineman and Yang, Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman round out the remainder of the cast.

Other hosts and musical guests announced so far for SNL‘s season 50 include Ariana Grande with Stevie Nicks, Michael Keaton with Billie Eilish and John Mulaney with Chappell Roan.

Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. ET on weekends on NBC.
