Simone Biles Has Message for Couch Judges Before Paris Olympics Competition ArticlePure

Simone Biles knows you’re sitting at home and judging her and her teammates.

The decorated Olympian, whose competition in Paris kicks off on July 28 with the women’s gymnastics qualifications, reshared a funny message about armchair experts on her Instagram Stories.

The original message, which appeared to be from X (formerly known as Twitter), said, “Olympic gymnast does a slight wobble after a never before seen or attempted tumbling combo. Me on my couch covered in Cheefos: “Yea… you gotta stick that landing.”

Underneath the reshare, Biles added three crying laughing emojis and wrote, “No but forreal ya’ll always couch judging & coaching.”

Biles, 27, enters this Olympic Games as a four-time gold medalist and it comes just after the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, when Biles withdrew from some events, including the team final and the individual all-around final.

Team USA’s gymnasts — Biles, Hezly Rivera, Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles — are competing in the second subdivision of the women’s gymnastics qualifiers alongside China, Italy and gymnasts from a few other countries. Based on their scores, they can earn spots in the team and individual finals.

Biles has been sharing snapshots of life in the Olympic Village since her arrival in France, and posted photos on July 27 from podium training, writing, “practice practice practice.”

During podium training on July 25, Biles landed a Yurchenko double pike vault — also known as the “Biles II.” The gymnast first debuted the skill in 2021 at the U.S. Classic and successfully completed it in 2023 at the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
