Shakira Colombia Concert Postponed 1 Week After Star’s ‘Abdominal Issue’ ArticlePure

Another Shakira concert has been postponed, just a week after one of her Peru shows was canceled due to what the singer described as an “abdominal issue.”

Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour stop in Medellín, Colombia, originally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 24, has been canceled due to circumstances “out of my hands,” the star, 48, announced on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Event organizers said the show at Medellín’s Atanasio Girardot Stadium was canceled due to safety concerns with the venue’s roof, Billboard reported.

In a Feb. 22 statement obtained by the outlet, concert promoter Páramo Presenta explained the decision, stating that, during the assembly process for the Feb. 24 concert, “the roof of the stage installed by the local production suffered damage that puts at risk the safety of the artist, her staff and, most importantly, that of the audience.”

“The promoter and the artist’s team are working together and hope to reschedule the date in the future,” the statement continued. “We understand that this decision may be annoying for the public who were anxiously awaiting the show, but the most important thing is everyone’s safety.”

Addressing the postponed concert herself in a Feb. 23 post on X, which was originally penned in Spanish, Shakira said, “My people from Medellín! It hurts me a lot not to be able to get on stage and sing for you as much as I wanted to.”

The star — who revealed that her two sons, Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, are with her in Colombia in a Feb. 23 Instagram post — went on to say that her kids “were excited to get to know Medellín, and I was excited to meet you again and share all the surprises I had prepared for them.”

“I’m sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who have traveled. It’s out of my hands and those of my production team, but I’m sure we’ll soon find a new date to celebrate together,” she continued, adding that she is “always grateful for the unconditional support you give me.”

“I love you very much and I hope to see you very soon,” Shakira concluded.

Páramo Presenta also confirmed that new Colombia tour dates are currently being rescheduled for later this year in an X post, also originally penned in Spanish.

“Together with Shakira’s team, we are working on new concerts for Colombia in the second half of this year, news that will be celebrated in more than one city in the country,” the promoter wrote.

News of Shakira’s latest concert cancellation comes a week after she had to cancel her Feb. 16 show in Peru due to an “abdominal issue” that sent her to the hospital. She had just kicked off the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The “She Wolf” musician was hospitalized for the “issue” on Saturday, Feb. 15, she announced on social media the following day.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” Shakira wrote at the time.

She went on to say that she canceled her Feb. 16 tour stop at the National Stadium of Peru at the recommendation of the doctors overseeing her health, who said she was “not in good enough condition to perform.”

The performer also said she was “very sad to not be able to take the stage” as she had “been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.”

As for the Feb. 16 show, Shakira said she and her team were working to reschedule and communicate a new date with ticket holders.
