Regina Hall is getting us even more excited about her upcoming movie with Leonardo DiCaprio than we already are. 

“That was amazing,” she tells PEOPLE of filming Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another (in theaters Sept. 26) while promoting her partnership with Bounty. Calling herself “a big fan” of the award-winning writer-director, Hall, 54, says she “was so excited to be a part of a film that he was making.”

Upon reading the script, she recalls, “I was incredibly curious: ‘What is this movie?’ … There’s a lot of laughter, strong messaging, humor, wit.”

Based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, Warner Bros.’ One Battle After Another centers on a group of ex-revolutionaries who reunite to face an enemy resurfacing after 16 years. DiCaprio, 50, leads the dark comedy as Bob Ferguson, with Hall as Deandra. A starry supporting cast includes Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Chase Infiniti, Wood Harris and more.

“The cast, I loved,” raves Hall, calling the ensemble “an incredible group … I love Leo, Benicio, Sean Penn — Teyana’s amazing.”

The “genius” of Anderson, 55, is that “there’s no part that’s insignificant,” adds the Scary Movie actress. “Even if they have one line, he’s so deliberate in his filmmaking. And I’m really excited for audiences to experience the film.”

One Battle After Another marks Anderson’s first project since 2021’s Licorice Pizza, which earned him three Oscar nominations. In March, DiCaprio joined YouTube, his first new social media account in years, to debut the film’s trailer. The following month, the Oscar winner joined Hall and Taylor onstage at CinemaCon to tease what he called “an incredibly epic movie.”

One Battle After Another is in theaters Sept. 26. Among Hall’s other upcoming screen projects are Peacock series The Five-Star Weekend, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (in theaters Dec. 19) and Girls Trip 2.
