Prince Harry Puts Meghan Markle on the Spot in Whistler: ‘She’s Going to Sing!’ ArticlePure

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are bundling up for winter fun at the Invictus Games.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued their visit to Canada on Feb. 10, supporting athletes in Whistler at the skeleton event’s debut. Although the Invictus Games had six previous iterations since Harry created the adaptive sports competition for service personnel and veterans in 2014, the Vancouver-Whistler event is the first time winter sports have joined the lineup.

Harry took the stage as he and Meghan arrived in Whistler, kicking off the moment with a warm introduction from his friend, Canadian singer Michael Bublé — who couldn’t resist singing a riff of “Feeling Good.”

Harry told the crowd, “Well, thank God Michael Bublé sang. Can you imagine bringing him out here and him saying, ‘You know what? I didn’t come here to sing…’ Thank you for the introduction.” (Harry and Meghan enjoyed a double date with Bublé and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, at an Indian restaurant in Vancouver on Feb. 8.)

He then gave a shoutout to Whistler’s mayor, Jack Crompton, calling him “my ginger friend” before playfully asking the audience, “Are there any other gingers in the house?”

Turning his attention to the competitors, Harry expressed his gratitude: “Thank you all so much for the love and support for these incredible athletes. You all came up here knowing you were going to get cold, so thank you for the support!”

Then, with a grin, he waved Meghan over. “My wife and I—come on out here! Come on!” As she joined him at the podium, they wrapped their arms around each other, and Harry quipped, “Now she’s going to sing!”

Looking horrified, Meghan burst out laughing and quickly shut it down with a firm, “No!” As they exited the stage, she turned to the crowd with a warm farewell: “Thank you, everybody. Have the best time!”

Prince Harry, 40, tried skeleton for himself during the Invictus Games One Year to Go celebration in 2024. He laid head-first on his stomach on the skeleton-bobsled to fly down a frozen track while Meghan, 34, filmed the run on her phone. (Harry even went down on a second run, but when a photographer suggested Meghan take a turn, she quipped, “No way!”)

Prince Harry and Meghan are spending lots of quality time with the more than 500 Invictus Games athletes during their time in Canada, from breakfast with Team U.S.A. to posing for selfies with athletes at events like wheelchair basketball and curling.

American Leandra Moehring — who is set to compete in skiing, indoor rowing, skeleton and swimming at the Invictus Games — told PEOPLE, “They really took the time with each and every one of us. And despite people who are trying to keep them on schedule, they just did not mind taking pictures at all. And it was just super neat. I loved them.”

Prince Harry took the stage at the opening ceremony on Feb. 8 and gave a speech, sharing that he made a “promise” to “do whatever I could to help my fellow brothers and sisters heal and to champion everything that we stand for” with the creation of the Invictus Games.

“Over the past decade, I’ve lost count of the times that we’ve heard you tell us that the Invictus Games ‘saved you.’ Respectfully, I disagree. Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself,” he continued. “It was you who pushed through the doubt and despair. You who summited your own mountain and brought us along with you. It was you who kept going even when you didn’t think you had any more to give. We didn’t do that. You did. The Games simply reveal what is already within you. That scarcest — and most precious — of the world’s resources: character. A spirit of fortitude and perseverance that can never be defeated. That is the magic of the Invictus Games.”
