Meryl Streep, Martin Short and Jennifer Lopez Visit ‘Oh, Mary!’ in N.Y.C. ArticlePure

It was a starry affair at Oh, Mary

The hit Broadway musical welcomed Meryl Streep, Martin Short, Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein in the audience on Saturday, March 8. Lopez, 55, and Goldstein, 44, seemingly came out to support the show’s lead actress Betty Gilpin, with whom they are starring in Netflix’s upcoming movie Office Romance. Longtime friends Streep, 75, and Short, 74, were spending a night out together.

The musical shared a video of the Hollywood stars with the cast on Instagram with the caption, “deep and crisp and meryl streep and jlo and martin short and brett goldstein and the cast of OH, MARY!”

At the beginning of the clip, the group can be seen posing for a photograph with the cast. Then, Streep stands in front of Gilpin, 38, who reaches to hold Lopez in a friendly embrace.

The video concludes with Gilpin and Streep going in for a hug while Short stands in the background with a smile on his face.

Lopez — who wore an off-white suit for the outing, with her long hair pulled back in a claw clip — posted about the musical on her Instagram Stories. She shared a photo from the meet-and-greet with the hashtag “office romance,” in reference to her Netflix movie. The singer went on to share two more photos with the cast.

Oh, Mary! follows “a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln” in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s 1865 assassination. The show plays at the Lyceum Theatre in New York City and is directed by Sam Pinkleton.

Gilpin joined the cast on Jan. 21 in her Broadway debut, taking over the eponymous role for a limited, eight-week engagement. She is set to do her last performance on March 16. Previously, the role was originated by playwright and actor Cole Escola, who wrote the musical.

Following the GLOW star’s run, six-time Emmy nominee Tituss Burgess will lead the play from March 18 through April 6. Escola will then return to the role on April 8, alongside original cast members Conrad Ricamora as Mary’s Husband and James Scully as Mary’s Teacher.

Streep and Short’s Broadway night out comes after the two were spotted on camera during Saturday Night Live‘s 50th anniversary concert special on Feb. 14. During the appearance, Streep made the middle finger gesture while sitting next to Short as former cast members Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer reprised their SNL characters Marty and Bobbi Mohan-Culp in a sketch.

Noting the gesture, Ferrell, 57, said, “We have pretty significant floaters right now, but it doesn’t stop us from seeing so many middle fingers peppered in both the upper mezzanine and orchestra section.”

“It’s just unbelievably rude,” Gasteyer, 57, replied, joking, “We’re talking about you, Meryl Streep. We see you.”

When the camera panned over to the Oscar winner in the audience, Streep raised her hand and flashed her middle finger, as Short and the audience laughed.

Streep and Short are longtime friends and Only Murders in the Building costars.

Representatives for Short previously shut down rumors regarding the nature of his relationship with Streep, telling PEOPLE in January 2024 that the pair are “just very good friends, nothing more.”
