Meghan Markle and Nelly Furtado couldn’t resist having some fun backstage at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games!

On Saturday, Feb. 8, Furtado, 46, posted an upbeat video of her and the Duchess of Sussex striking a pose backstage at the Opening Ceremony of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 — and both seemed surprised when Prince Harry made a cameo!

“They’re beautiful , that’s for sure ? @meghan @weareinvictusgames,” the Grammy Award winner wrote referring to the lyrics of her song “I’m Like a Bird” in the caption of an Instagram video of her and Meghan, 43, making playful faces as she held the camera. Both acted surprised when Harry, 40, suddenly walked behind and made a serious face, which made them laugh.

The Duchess of Sussex and the “Say It Right” singer then blew kisses at the camera and gave a wave, as the clip closed.

The video was set to the tune of “I’m like a Bird” by Furtado, which is one of the songs she sang at the Opening Ceremony of the Invictus Games on Feb. 8. The Canadian singer-songwriter was the first headliner to take the stage at the Invictus’ Games Opening Ceremony on Saturday, and performed a slew of songs. 

Her music soundtracked a performance by breakdance crew ILL-Abilities, a dance group comprised of differently-abled dancers, and she also dueted with Mattmac, a blind music producer and recording artist, during her set.

Furtado posted the fun video with Meghan a few hours after the Opening Ceremony wrapped, along with another sweet word on her Instagram Stories over the same clip.

“Having a wonderful time at #InvictusGames with these gems,” Furtado wrote, tagging the Duchess of Sussex’s new Instagram handle and the Invictus Games’ official profile on the platform.

Furtado graced the stage at BC Place in Vancouver during a star-studded Opening Ceremony for the seventh cycle of Invictus, which also featured performances from Chris Martin, Noah Kahan and Katy Perry. The celebration kicked off the next edition of the international adaptive sports tournament for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans that Prince Harry, a former captain in the British Army, founded in 2014 as a means for healing.

The competition runs from Feb. 8 to Feb. 16 in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada.

The Duke of Sussex made an inspirational speech about the power of perseverance towards the close of the Opening Ceremony show. 

“Over the past decade, I’ve lost count of the times that we’ve heard you tell us that the Invictus Games ‘saved you.’ Respectfully, I disagree. Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself,” Prince Harry said on stage.

“It was you who pushed through the doubt and despair. You who summited your own mountain and brought us along with you. It was you who kept going even when you didn’t think you had any more to give. We didn’t do that. You did,” he continued. “The Games simply reveal what is already within you. That scarcest — and most precious — of the world’s resources: character. A spirit of fortitude and perseverance that can never be defeated. That is the magic of the Invictus Games.”
