Leonardo DiCaprio has worked with most of the great directors of his generation, and the latest is Paul Thomas Anderson in the upcoming “incredibly epic” One Battle After Another.

At CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 1, DiCaprio, 50, revealed new details about the upcoming movie during distributor Warner Bros.’ panel presentation. The actor told the crowd he had wanted to work with Anderson, whose films include Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood and Licorice Pizza, for “almost 20 years now,” calling the filmmaker “one of the most unique talents of our time.”

Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti and Alana Haim also star in the black comedy, which is reportedly loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland. One Battle After Another‘s plot centers on a group of ex-revolutionaries who reunite to rescue one of their own daughter when their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years.

The new film is “an incredibly epic movie and has such scope and scale,” DiCaprio teased on the Caesar’s Palace stage at CinemaCon. He went on to praise Anderson, 54, as a “master” who is open to allowing his actors to improvise.

“A lot of writer-directors are incredibly rigid, but his ability to work with actors is so unique,” DiCpairo said, calling it an “honor” to work with the filmmaker.

Hall and Taylor also joined DiCaprio onstage to talk about making One Battle After Another. “It’s humorous, it’s funny, but it’s also heartfelt,” Hall, 54, said of the movie. “And so to be able to spar alongside anyone, especially these two, is amazing.”

Taylor, 34, admitted her character isn’t likable. “She’s always in survival mode,” Taylor said. “She’s very misunderstood, but she’s still selfish… I can’t wait for you to meet this character.”
