Joe Burrow Has Always Been ‘A Bit of a Fashionista,’ Mom Says (Exclusive) ArticlePure

NEED TO KNOW

  • Joe Burrow is one of three quarterbacks highlighted in the latest season of Netflix’s Quarterback series
  • In the series’ second episode, Burrow’s interest in fashion is highlighted as one of his off-the-field hobbies
  • The new season begins streaming July 8

Joe Burrow’s interest in fashion is nothing new, according to his mom Robin.

“I mean, honestly, I feel like from the time he was kind of little, he was always a little bit particular about his clothes,” Robin Burrow says in an exclusive clip from the upcoming season of Netflix’s seven-part Quarterback docuseries. “He liked what he liked for sure.”

Burrow is among three NFL quarterbacks who are profiled throughout the 2024 season for the upcoming series, which begins streaming July 8 on Netflix.

In Burrow’s case, the series highlights his budding interest in fashion — something he says may have come from his mom’s work in the fashion industry while he was growing up.

“My mom was in fashion merchandising when I was little, so she’s already played a role in that,” Burrow says. “She would always get me colorful shirts that I would like to wear.”

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback adds that when he was a kid he “didn’t really know what kind of clothes I liked yet, but I liked colors.”

“It helps when you’re confident in your own skin, and I would say it just evolved from there,” Burrow says.

In recent years, Burrows has made headlines for both his outfit choices at NFL events and before his games. The NFL star walked the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala in early May — wearing a slate blue suit, sneakers and shades while showing off a gold watch — and turned heads last summer when he walked the runway at Vogue World: Paris in a black Peter Do suit with black lapels and a cutout that showed off his bare back.

At the time, Burrow said participating in the event was out of his “comfort zone” but still in his wheelhouse. “I’ve always loved clothes but never really understood the industry, so I wanted to learn more,” he told Vogue.

In the latest season of Netflix’s Quarterback series, which also follows NFL stars Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins, several scenes show Burrow picking outfits with his personal stylist Kyle Smith.

Later in the episode, Burrow’s mother teases her son again by calling him “a bit of a fashionista” and repeating that he’s always been “very, very particular about his clothes.”

But Robin says she loves every bit of her son’s off-the-field interests: “I think it’s exciting that he shows his personality in those ways.”

Season two of Quarterback streams on Netflix beginning July 8.
