Harrison Ford Requested to Be Shirtless for ‘Shrinking’ Shaving Scene (Exclusive) ArticlePure

Harrison Ford wants to bare it all!

Bill Lawrence, co-creator of Apple TV+’s Shrinking, told PEOPLE at the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Edison Ballroom in New York City that the actor, 82, requested to be shirtless for a scene they filmed.

Walking the carpet with his wife Christa Miller, who also stars in the comedy series with Ford, Lawrence said, “My favorite story I always tell people, because we were doing a shaving scene the other day, the first time [Ford] had to do a shaving scene on the show, he called me up and he’s like, ‘I’m not going to shoot this.‘ ”

The show creator recalled being confused and asking, “Why not?”

According to Lawrence, Ford replied, “If I’m shaving, I have to be shirtless.”

He continued, “And I’m like, ‘All right. You can be shirtless. What else do you need?’ He goes, ‘Just 10 minutes to do some push-ups.’ ”

Miller chimed in, adding that Ford “looked good” in the scene.

When asked if Ford ultimately took off his shirt to film the scene, Lawrence said, “Yeah, of course. He shamed me,” before joking, “I work on set shirtless now. Just trying to go head-to-head.”

Shrinking — co-created by Lawrence, Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein — follows grieving therapist Jimmy Laird (Segel), who decides to take a new, more bold approach to his craft. Ford, in one of his first main television roles, plays senior therapist Dr. Paul Rhoades, who works at the same center as Jimmy.

The series premiered on Apple TV+ in January 2023 and aired its second season from October to December 2024. The second season sees the Marvel star’s character explore his journey with Parkinson’s disease. The show was renewed for a third season in October.

Speaking to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview timed to season 2, Ford said he’s taking his character’s journey “deadly f—ing seriously” despite the show’s comedic nature.

“There’s no intention to make it into a joke,” he explained. “But there are people that absorb these kinds of experiences with grace and courage and a little bit of wisdom. And that is not to say that some people do not.”

Ford added, “It’s just to say that this is a person particularly equipped to communicate what it is that it’s like, and that is something that I feel that is worth sharing with our audience.”
