Grant Calls Show ‘Emotionally Taxing’ ArticlePure

Spain didn’t exactly bring the amor for week 4 of Grant Ellis’s Bachelor journey.

Grant, 31, took his remaining suitors to Madrid in the Feb. 17 episode and the day trader said he hoped to “develop a romantic, emotional connection” while there.

He started the week with a one-on-one date with Dina.

“I want to see if she can let down some walls and just have fun,” Grant told the cameras.

They explored Madrid, kicking around a soccer ball with some children in the street, slow dancing outside with other couples and stopping at wall of wishes to make their own. Dina, 31, wished for “a happy marriage filled with love, laughter, children and full of fun,” and Grant wanted something similar.

The pair added their wishes to the wall and then headed out on a rowboat together. “I’m used to doing things alone, and Dina’s opening my eyes to a partnership that’s a 50-50 thing,” Grant said in an on-camera interview.

Later, over dinner, Grant told Dina she reminded him of his mom “not in a weird way.” Dina admitted to Grant that she could be “a little bit of an ice queen” when it came to dating, and she credited that to growing up as one of 11 children.

“We like, didn’t talk about our feelings and in my relationships I held back a lot,” the attorney explained.

Dina proceeded to ask Grant why his seven-year relationship ended.

“The downfall of it was I was a little bit selfish in regard where I was trying to pursue my career and I didn’t really cater to the things that she was asking for the way that I should have,” Grant shared.

That made Grant realize, “If you don’t have love, trust, loyalty, I understand what’s important.”

Dina agreed. “I’m like that too,” she said.

Grant told Dina he liked the “vibe” they had and offered her a rose. “I had an amazing time today with you and I see you as somebody who can definitely be in my future,” Grant said to Dina. “I want to learn all the layers there are to you so Dina, will you accept this rose?”

She did, and they sealed the night with a kiss.

“Tonight was so amazing,” Dina said to the cameras. “Being in Marid, the city of love, it’s hard not to fall in love here.”

GROUP DATE

Alexe, Litia, Carolina, Natalie, Rose, Parisa, Zoe and Juliana went on this week’s group date, which started off with a tour of Chinchón by donkey. Then they met a matadora, Caren Calderon, who taught them the basics of bull fighting. The women practiced their matadora skills with the help of Grant pushing a fake bull their way.

Then the women changed into matadora outfits and found out they’d be facing off to see who could ride a mechanical bull the longest.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever thought to myself, ‘Six seconds is long enough,’” Carolina, 28, told the cameras.

Alexe, 27, pioneered the strategy of holding onto the bull’s horns and lasted for 47 seconds. Then Zoe, 27, copied Alexe’s technique and outlasted her to win it all.

At the afterparty, Grant gave Parisa, 29, a rock because he remembered she said she liked them on the first night. He also chatted with Rose, 27, following her spreading misinformation to Carolina. Rose told Grant she had “a conversation with myself” after that situation, and he assured the nurse he could “see potential” in them.

“Rose is this free-spirited woman,” Grant told the cameras. “She’s beautiful, she’s smart and I feel like we had an open and honest conversation, which is something that was very needed between us.”

Carolina wondered to the group, “how do you get engaged after one date essentially” and that made a lot of the women, especially Juliana, 28, question her intentions. So Juliana confronted Carolina.

“If I felt that unsure of who he was as an individual, I would be packing my bags and leaving,” Juliana said to the public relations producer.

Carolina assured Juliana that she saw something in Grant or she wouldn’t be there. “I’m not really trying to have a relationship with you, Juliana,” Carolina said. “I think he knows where I stand.”

When Carolina returned to the women, she told them she’s “all ears” to hear any “concerns about me being here or my intentions.”

“I think negativity has been a common theme and it’s hard for all of us who are trying to be positive,” Rose said to Carolina.

Carolina started tearing up and Grant noticed that when he joined the group ready to hand out the date rose. He pulled Carolina out to talk and she told him about the conversation with Juliana.

“We know what we have so let’s just focus on that,” Grant said to Carolina. “All I’m saying is, it’s not about Juliana, it’s about us.”

Still, Grant didn’t want to give out a rose after what he’d heart, saying it left him confused.

“I have some thinking to do and I’m going to consider some things,” he told the women on the group date.

SECOND ONE-ON-ONE

First, Grant went on a date with Sarafiena. They tried bungee jumping off a bridge on a rainy day, and Sarafiena, 29, thought it would be “such a great bonding experience.”

“I think Sarafiena’s confidence, her calm, is doing wonders for me,” Grant said in an on-camera interview.

The couple jumped and kissed when they landed.

“I feel like our relationship is growing,” Grant said afterwards.

Over dinner, though, Grant shared with Sarafiena that he noticed a reservation on her end.

“When we do kiss, I get a sense that you’re still a little hesitant to go all the way in,” the former basketball pro told Sarafiena.

The associate media director had a simple explanation for that. “It’s really because my mom’s watching,” Sarafiena assured.

Sarafiena shared that growing up without a dad influenced her relationships, but that it felt different with Grant. “This is the first time in my life that I feel so comfortable sharing so much with someone because I genuinely feel like you’re worth it,” Sarafiena told Grant.

Grant sensed Sarafiena “being genuine” with him and appreciated it.

“I definitely feel like there is a connection here and I hope that you feel the same way,” The Bachelor said to her.

Grant gave Sarafiena a rose and she told the cameras he “makes me feel so safe and happy.”

COCKTAIL PARTY

Grant opened the cocktail party by telling his suitors his mind had “been racing a little bit” after the group date.

“After I saw Carolina, crying she told me some things that were concerning,” Grant said in an on-camera interview. “She felt like she was being attacked by Juliana, so it’s important that I hear Juilana’s side.”

So Grant pulled Juliana to talk, and she told him that Carolina had “nothing positive to say about the date” they went on earlier in the season.

“That’s hard for me to hear,” Grant said.

After learning that, Grant told told the cameras he found Carolina to be “so judgmental.” “It’s just not mature,” the reality star added.

Then, he spoke to Carolina. “It’s a little concerning to me and it does hurt a little bit because on our date, I developed a soft spot for you,” Grant said to her.

Carolina tried to defend herself. “It’s more natural for someone to have doubts when they’re first meeting someone than for someone to be like, ‘I’m ready to marry this man tomorrow,’” she said to Grant. “Of course I’m going to have my doubts. Of course, it’s … if I’m concerned it’s because I take this seriously.”

Grant told Carolina she “should be coming to me with that only” rather than discussing it with the other women. “We’re good, but it hurts me when you question it,” Grant said to her.

Carolina left the conversation not feeling “very optimistic” about her relationship with Grant.

“This is emotionally taxing but I appreciate everything that’s going on because it’s helping me form stronger connections,” Grant said to Natalie, 25.

Meanwhile, Rose couldn’t get over Carolina spilling their private conversation to Grant. “Your actions really set me back and it really kind of f—ed me over,” Rose said to Carolina.

Rose walked off crying, declaring, “I can’t do this anymore. I just want to go home.”

Rose informed Grant about her decision, and he ultimately accepted it.

“That hurts me, it does, but ultimately it’s what she wanted and I respect that,” Grant said to the remaining women at the beginning of the rose ceremony. “So let’s just try to do the best we can moving forward to make everybody comfortable because your feelings, it affects me a lot.”

Grant gave roses to Litia, Juliana, Alexe, Zoe and Carolina, which meant Natalie and Parisa went home.

“Did I talk about rocks too much?” Parisa wondered to the cameras after being eliminated. “It just sucks, but I’m excited to see my cat Sonny.”
