Donna Kelce may have hinted at her son Travis Kelce’s engagement to girlfriend Taylor Swift when speaking with PEOPLE exclusively on the red carpet at ESPN’s special screening of The Kingdom on Sunday, Aug. 24.

When asked about what’s making her Kansas City Chiefs tight end son “so happy” right now, the famed NFL mom didn’t hesitate to share her — now-obvious — reason why.

“I think his mind is settled. That’s about all I can tell you,” Donna told PEOPLE exclusively of where she thinks Travis’ happiness is stemming from at the moment, two days before the couple announced the news of their engagement in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

“I think he feels calm and he feels like he’s on a mission and he knows exactly what he wants,” she added.

Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, also shared with PEOPLE a similar answer when asked the same question on the event’s red carpet held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City on Sunday night.

“Taylor,” Ed candidly admitted when he was tasked with pinpointing the cause of Travis’ happiness. “There’s no question about it.”

When asked if he tuned in to watch the couple on Travis and his brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast earlier this month, Ed said he thought the record-breaking episode was “so good.”

“I think it was awesome,” he added. “It was great to see them go back and forth. They’re two people obviously very much in love.”

On Tuesday, the “Cruel Summer” singer and the Chiefs tight end, both 35, shared the engagement news alongside several photos from their floral-filled garden proposal.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married ?,” Swift wrote in the caption.

Travis proposed with a ring he designed with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry. The dazzling stone is an “Old Mine brilliant cut,” which Swift shows off in several photos.

Travis and Swift began dating in 2023. After seeing the singer perform at his team’s Arrowhead Stadium during her Eras Tour that July, Travis invited Swift to attend one of his games in September, and their relationship took off.

Since then, the Ohio native has spoken about the pop superstar in a number of interviews (and Swift seemingly sings about Travis on her album The Tortured Poets Department). They’ve also stepped out alongside each other at various events, including the US Open and Coachella.

Most recently, Swift made her debut on Travis’ New Heights podcast, where the two detailed the start of their love story — and shared a glimpse into the singer’s forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl — over the course of its two-hour duration.
