New York City was Swept Away again on Monday, April 28 as original cast members from the acclaimed Broadway musical reunited again for a one-night-only reunion concert.
PEOPLE has exclusive photos from the event, which took place at the famed music venue Bowery Ballroom.
The musical — which featured tunes from the chart-topping folk-rock band The Avett Brothers — had a short run on Broadway, playing 20 preview performances and 48 regular performances before closing on Dec. 29, 2004. But in it’s brief time on the boards, it received raves from critics and audiences alike, developing a loyal fan base and landing itself on many season-end “Best of” lists.
That love inspired Monday’s concert. Two performances were staged: a 7 p.m. show and a 9:45 p.m. show, both playing to sold-out crowds.

All cheered on Tony Award winner and Spring Awakening alum John Gallagher Jr., Tony nominee (and Gallagher Jr.’s former American Idiot costar) Stark Sands, Dickinson standout Adrian Blake Enscoe and Wayne Duvall (1984) — Swept Away‘s principal cast members.
The foursome were back together again alongside ensemble members included Josh Breckenridge, Hunter Brown, Matt DeAngelis, Cameron Johnson, Brandon Kalm, Rico LeBron, Michael J. Mainwaring, Orville Mendoza, Chase Peacock, Tyrone L. Robinson, David Rowen and John Sygar, plus swings John Michael Finley and Robert Pendilla.
“When the opportunity arose to reunite and revisit these songs, we jumped at the chance,” Swept Away director Michael Mayer said in a statement when the concert was announced back in March.
“This concert is just one of the many ways Swept Away, and the score of The Avett Brothers, will continue reaching audiences,” Sands added. “We can’t wait to be part of that journey once again.”

Swept Away is inspired by a real-life story of an 1884 shipwreck off the Cape of Good Hope, which left the four-person crew of the sunken yacht stranded on a lifeboat.
The Avett Brothers used that story as the basis for their 2004 album, Mignonette. After listening to the LP, Matthew Masten — who produced Swept Away beside Sean Hudock, Madison Wells Live and others — reached out to the band to inquire about adapting their songs for the stage.
Tony-winning writer John Logan, while penning the musical’s book, wound up pulling songs into the score from five different Avett Brothers albums. The Avett Brothers even wrote a new song, “Lord Lay Your Hand on My Shoulder,” for the show.
Logan also moved the action to New Bedford, Massachusetts, changing other details of the story to make it original.

During the Broadway run, The Avett Brothers (who are also credited as producers on the musical) made several appearances on the Rialto, performing a few of their hits for audiences post-curtain call.
The show marked the Broadway debuts for Enscoe, LeBron, Mainwaring and Sygar.
Swept Away‘s creative team included Tony-nominated choreographer David Neumann, Tony-winning set designer Rachel Hauck, Tony-winning costume designer Susan Hilferty, four-time Tony-winning lighting designer Kevin Adams, Tony -winning sound designer John Shivers, music arranger & orchestrator Chris Miller, music arranger & orchestrator/music supervisor Brian Usifer and music director Will Van Dyke.
Audiences who missed the reunion concert can still relive the magic of the show through its original Broadway cast recording, which was first released on Feb. 7. Joy Machine Records dropped a double vinyl version of the album on April 25.
