3 Shot Dead, 5 Injured in Shooting at ‘Social Gathering’ in Chicago ArticlePure

Three people are dead and five others are injured after a “social gathering” in Chicago on Monday, authorities say.

Officers from the Chicago Police Department responded to a call about a person shot at the 3500 block of West 59th Street at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 2, said Chief of Police Jon P. Hein during a press conference.

Upon their arrival, officers requested medical services after discovering that eight individuals, described as four males and four females, had been shot.

According to Hein, all individuals were 20 to 35 years old and were at the location for what “appeared to be a social gathering.” The three deceased individuals were male, said Hein.

While none of the victims have been publicly identified, local affiliates WFLD and WGN-TV report, citing the Chicago Police Department, that one of the deceased males was an adult who sustained gunshot wounds “to the head, chest, right thigh, and right wrist” and died at the hospital.

The two others sustained “multiple gunshot wounds to the body” and were pronounced dead at the scene, per the outlets. PEOPLE reached out to the Chicago Police Department but did not immediately hear back.

While Hein said it is too early to know of a motive, he confirmed during Monday’s press conference that “there have been calls of service at this residence.” He vowed that the department would find the individual or individuals responsible for the “heinous, terrible incident.”

Neighbors told WLS-TV that a large house party was happening when shots were fired, with witness El Towers telling the outlet: “I started hearing shots, very loud shots, maybe a lot of them. I can’t recall how many.”

In an interview with WGN-TV, Towers recalled growing up in the area and expressed that crime has been “bad like this ever since I was a kid.”

“Things haven’t changed out here. I’ve been here my whole life and I always remember shootings and people getting killed. It’s the same thing 30 years age,” he said.
